Subrosa is a 3 dimensional graphic environment. The computer interacts with the universe and world servers to get and then compute the information that it treats as objects. Moving around is like operating a remote control robot with cameras, also known as your "avatar" much the same as with many games that have you walking about in an environment. In Subrosa you may see other people who are also connected to the same world and universe and with whom you can chat in text, in real-time instant chat.
I have built subrosa myself. I started with a blank world and lifted up the mountain and lowered the seabed and loaded in favorite textures for the land and sea and sky. I set the clouds moving in the sky and designated the lighting and atmosphere. Then I started, and am still building, to build the structures, plant the foliage and lay out rocks and water. Objects are either found ready made from other people or custom made for the world. An object is anything other than the land, sea and sky. Rocks, trees, walls, houses, dishes, furniture, floors, flowers, animals and fires are all objects. You need to use a 3d modelling application to create them, somewhat like movie animators use in modern 3d animations, although the objects in 3d worlds are considerably simpler. Since the information and graphics for the objects have to be downloaded by the user one is limited in complexity.

The world is located in Activeworlds. Activeworlds requires that you puchase a membership in order to view all the worlds but there are a smaller selection of worlds that are open to exploration by tourists, which is to say, people who haven't paid. I've paid the extra fee to let people in for free so my world is open to tourists.

You can load the software and go there to examine my work. You should have a reasonably modern computer from at least the last few years of the 1990s or better to use this software or you will find your computer just can't keep up with the software. The world name to look for is subrosa. When you have the 3d browser open, you must access the worlds list to find it listed, but you can also swiftly get there from the teleport menu at the top of the screen. Choose the command "to" from the menu and type "subrosa" in the top edit box in place of the text already there. Then click "OK" and you will be taken to my world. Go to this link: CLICK HERE to open up the website for Subrosa.

Here are a series of videos from subrosa that I uploaded to youtube. The capture quality is poor but for those unable to load the browser and visit directly, these give some idea of what a 3d world looks like. I did not include sounds although some of these scenes include sound. My capture software didn't have that facility.
